Yesterday I attended the Landscape Institute East of England AGM as part of the East of England Branch Committee.
It was a valuable opportunity to reflect on the evolving role of landscape architecture and the increasing importance of landscape-led approaches in addressing today’s environmental and societal challenges.
The Committee Framework continues to focus on key areas including:
- Knowledge and Practice
- Policy and Public Affairs
- Membership and Professional Standards
- Education and Careers
- Professional Conduct
A strong theme throughout the discussions was the recognition that landscape-led thinking is essential to delivering sustainable solutions that enhance quality of life—requiring high professional standards, strong technical skills, and interdisciplinary collaboration to plan, design, and manage landscapes effectively.
It was also interesting to hear about the Institute’s ongoing digital transformation and future opportunities for members to become involved in specialist Task and Finish Groups.
There was also valuable discussion around the role of the Institute in engaging with government policy, contributing to consultations, and strengthening the voice of the profession within wider planning, environmental, and infrastructure discussions.
Serving on the Branch Committee continues to be a meaningful way to contribute to the profession beyond project work, while learning from fellow practitioners working across landscape, planning, ecology, and environmental disciplines.
Thank you to everyone involved in organising and contributing to the AGM.
