NATIONAL PLANNING POLICY FRAMEWORK (NPPF)
Through self-directed study of the NPPF, I have developed a clear understanding of the framework’s role in setting the strategic context for UK planning and its core objective of achieving sustainable development. This includes how national policy informs plan-making and decision-taking, and how sustainability objectives are embedded across economic, social and environmental considerations. This study has strengthened my understanding of the basis on which planning decisions are made, including expectations for submissions relating to open space, Green Belt, health and wellbeing, sustainable transport, climate change mitigation and adaptation, well-designed places, environmental protection and conservation. I have also developed an understanding of the policy approaches to historic environments and heritage landscapes, and how these considerations should be balanced within development proposals.
