What are Townscapes and Seascapes?
Townscape
- The context is where a dominant built environment exists.
- It is concerned with buildings and the relationships between them.
- It includes the network of Green Infrastructure, public places and open spaces.
- Historic dimensions contribute to the context of townscapes.
Townscape is concerned with change and development over time, contributing to the form and character of a place.
Seascape
- A seascape is a landscape with views of seas and coastlines.
- It includes riverine and marine environments.
- It considers cultural, historical and archaeological interdependencies.
Seascape has been included in Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA) work, in accordance with the European Landscape Convention due to an increase in:
- Aquaculture.
- Offshore wind farms.
- Tidal energy schemes.
- Coastal risk management defences.
