The CIEEM have reviewed the published Planning and Infrastructure Bill (PIB) to ascertain ongoing issues and to provide solutions thereto. In its attempt to accelerate development and nature recovery, the PIB in its revised form significantly weakens environmental protections. Streamlining environmental decision-making has been recognised as important, but the approach threatens safeguards for protected species, habitats and sites. In their view, Part 3 should be narrowed to focus solely on environmental impacts, explicitly excluding matters related to protected species and most other habitat impacts to support efficient development and meaningful nature recovery without environmental harm.
