Courtyard Garden Design Sketches

For this project, I produced hand-drawn sketches to provide the client with a clear visualisation of both the hard and soft landscape elements, illustrating materials, spatial arrangements, and planting palettes. The entrance courtyard was designed as a formal, welcoming space, featuring a timber-beamed pergola and terracotta pots with a mix of standard and cascading plantings. Key plant selections included Lavandula spp., Tulbaghia violacea and Viola spp., arranged in a structured, elegant composition that complemented the architectural features.

Beyond the entrance, the swimming pool area was planted with a diverse selection of textural plants, chosen to create visual interest and contrast through leaf form, colour, and light. Dense, continuous planting provided a unifying backdrop, guiding the eye through the space while establishing a sense of enclosure. The overall design aimed to create a serene, protected environment—a retreat from the outside world where residents could relax, recharge, and enjoy social gatherings in a visually engaging and restful setting.
