Landscape-led thinking is informed by the concept of genius loci — the “spirit of the place”.
This describes the distinctive atmosphere that emerges from the interaction of the natural system characteristics of landform, ecology & climate as well as anthropogenic influences such as built form, historic land use & cultural narratives that contribute to the unique character & identity of a place.
